Adventures of a Global Wanderer
I had a full days itinerary planned and the next stop after the Tatar Mosque (see last entry) was the Peter and Paul Fortress. My route was going to circle round to The Hermitage later in the day.
My 3 day St Petersburg card included admission to The Peter and Paul Fortress. I got there by 10am expecting it to be open by now.
There were other museums such as a waxworks, torture, or viewing platform which I thought were all included but they kept saying it wasn't. I was wondering what use was this card if nothing was included?
The main cathedral didn't open till 11am so I decided to walk over to Peter's Cabin a short walk outside the fortress and come back.
Luckily the cabin was included in my 3 day pass. The timber cabin is actually housed inside an outer brick structure for protection. Photos are not allowed of the actual log cabin without a separate ticket. It was a small hut with a living room, bedroom, and study which you could see thru the open windows.
Walking back to the fortress I had to find where to get the entrance ticket to the cathedral. The main ticket office does not issue tickets for the tourist pass. She directed me to another kiosk where a lady gave me the ticket.
Inside the cathedral was quite majestic with its marble pillars and chandeliers. There were also many members of the Royal Family entombed here but I didn't know who they were as the writing was all in Russian
It was an impressive start to the majestic grandeur I was to experience in St Petersburg
