Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Now I had a few hours to kill in Penang before my 6pm flight I wanted to check out some of the museums that had been closed for the three day holiday.
First was the Peranakan Mansion. There were wealthy Chinese families that adopted a mix of Malay and Colonial lifestyles.
I had to ask how to find the house and entry was 20Rm ($8). This threw off my budgeting for such a high entry cost but the attendants were inviting people claiming this was "the best museum in Penang".
They certainly were not wrong as this was a really impressive and lavishly laid home I havent seen elsewhere. It is also used for filming movies and tv series.
There are four buildings, the two storey main home, a family chapel, kitchens, and a long building housing the jewellery collection.
When I was done I went to the Islamic Arts Museum but it was padlocked. Finally I stopped by for some lunch. Not wanting to spend too much having spent too much on the entry ticket I opted for a Nasi Goreng which was only 3.50Rm ($1.15)
