Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Having arrived in a new destination again it was time go exploring for the evening and find some food. The town had a very historic feel and was bustling with more tourists than any of the other places I had visited.
Opposite the hostel was a Tibetan style Buddhist Temple with spinning wheels. There was a monk who was welcoming tourists inside.
A few blocks away in what would be the town centre on the map I came to the large Keeling Mosque. There was a tourist info office which was closed for the day but I went into the Mosque familiar with Mosques and Islam.
It was a mix of Indian and Arabic in its design with white pillars and walls.
Just opposite was a Hindu Temple and across from that was a Chinese Temple. A block down was another Muslim shrine. Penang was to be a very religiously diverse town with so many places of worship so close together.
The Hindu Temple and Muslim shrine were at the start of 'India St'. A lot of places were still closed as today was the Hari Raya Eid holiday but I found a restaurant in the Indian section that was open
I ordered a tandoori chicken biriyani for 12Rm ($4) with drink. I became quite fond of cream soda which I ended up drinking a lot.
Elsewhere in the indian district they were playing tamil movies and the town had a much stronger Indian feel than any of the places I had visited before.
