Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Final stop today was to the Bourse Art Museum opposite the Dome Cathedral. I didnt reallhy know what this was, the guide said there was a collection of ceramics.
Entrance was meant to be 6 Eu ($7) but they said it was free today. The exhibits were on two floors. The first exhibit floor had eastern art from East Asia and the Near East.
The main exhibition floor was filled with traditional European Art. The Building interior was also quite elaborate.
After a long day once again I now needed food and was wandering town like a bear come out of hibernation. I couldnt find anything appealing and made my way across old town back to where the central market was and my hostel.
There was an interesting Soviet building I wanted to photograph, modelled on the same design as buildings in Moscow, and Warsaw. Had I known at the time you can actually go up to an observation level.
There still wasnt much sign of food so I figured there would be places in the main train station. I didnt see anything so crossed to the other side where I saw some kebab places. I was happy to see an Uzbek restaurant from my time eating Uzbek food in Korea and Uzbekistan, but when I tried to order an item they said they were out.
I went to another place and ordered their chicken nuggets which was just two tiny pieces with fries for 1.75 Eu and only like eating a bag of peanuts. I was still starving. Then I went to another Turkish kebab place and got a kebab roll for 1.50 Eu which was finally filling.
Finally I went to the supermarket in the train station to stock up on supplies. My total came to 2.20 Eu ($2.50) for a bunch of items. The drink was mint flavoured which was like drinking toothpaste!.
After a somewhat creepy arrival in Latvia there turned out to be quite a bit to see in Riga. But it was still a bit strange seeing several locals wandering the streets with punched in bruised faces in what is meant to be the EU!!!
