Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Back on the mainland I was going to explore the two most prominent landmarks. The first was the red church which is the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral.
It was not as elaborate as the Orthodox Churches in Russia with none of the artwork and murals along the inside domes and arches.
A few streets away was Senate Square and the city's most famous landmark.
The main Cathedral again had a simple white interior and was more minimalist in contrast to neighbouring Russia.
Locals and tourists like to sit on the steps outside the Cathedral looking down or just to hang out. I met another Korean tour group and wondered if it was the same ones I met in Peterhof Palace yesterday.
I was trying to kill time till 4pm so my entry code would work in my hotel and I could get in my room. I was still walking around with my bag.
I was trying to find the bus stop for my two day trips the next two days. When I found it a sign said they had moved to the bus terminal which was better for me as that was closer to my hotel.
Finally I could get into my hotel room. It was only on the 2nd floor overlooking the street so may be noisy. I didn't want to bother with the call centre trying to change my room as there is no reception or anyone onsite here.
They would just give me another code and tell me to come back again after 4pm the next day after checking out from this room in the morning with my bag again, so too much hassle. They had Swedish and Finnish tv. One channel was showing Uk soap Emmerdale.
