Turns out that travel over land and sea takes a lot of patience, luck and time. No wonder there are so many budget airlines here. Obviously it is hard to cover all 7000 islands and to have a decent infra-structure here. The trip from Boracay to Sablayan proves this as well.
Teamed up with Carl to get to Mindoro island, to the town of Sablayan where the scuba diving is supposed to be really good, for example at Apo Reef. Manta Rays, turtles, hammerhead- and other sharks are just some of the species to be found here.
The last day in Boracay was an easy one, I walked up and down the entire beach, relaxed. In the evening Carl and I said bye to Anna, who is going home to Sweden via Kualu Lumpur very early in the morning. Carl and I decide to check out of the bungalows before 8, then take a tricycle to the ferry back ti Catlican. All goes according to plan, 8:30 we are ready to catch the 10am ferry to Roxas, on Mindori island. But big surprise; there are not enough busses and/or passengers so it's cancelled! Next one: 2pm.. I walk around town, drink coffee, talk to some people and eat mango while Carl takes a room for a few hours to catch up on some sleep. I buy the tickets and terminal fees (450/person (8€) for the 4 hour trip.
Seems we are the only Europeans on board, there are a few hundred passengers. Sleep some, watch Boracay as we sail by and just around sunset we arive (6pm). The transportation onwards is now limited to mini vans. We find one from Roxas to San Jose but they wait until its full and in this case that turns out to be at 10pm, some 4 hours later. Safe to say I have time to call my family. It's my sisters birthday so I get through and we exchange some holiday stories. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUUS! They are on Tenerife and while it is hot here (32), turns out its even hotter there (37). With 14 people, 2 babies and way too much cargo we leave. The trip to San Jose is out of a movie, it's dark, the 94 km road is for at least half under construction, it's raining, driver dives fast and used his horn contantly. I am cramped up in a corner of this cliché description of travels on the backpack track, finding a room upon arrival through a drunk tricycle driver turns out to be a challenge, but there is success at last. Rooms for 9€ with tv. Turns out the tv is broken so i get a 3€ discount still :-/ The 8:30 bus leaves after 9:00 and takes us the 64 km in just over two hours over unpaved roads to Sablayan.
Soon more again, now going offline for 48 hours, a two day, five dive trip booked to Apo Reef and staying overnight at a deserted island. So cool, more about that later!
