Phi Phi town is definitely a young persons place - badly hit by the Tsunami you can see that they are still trying to rebuild it.We only spent 2 days on Phi Phi and 1/2 of one of them was getting there...
We spent the first afternoon exploring Phi Phi Town (takes approx 15 mins) and it's beach. The beach has quite a laid back/relaxed vibe with the beach bars playing chilled out music.
In the evening we met up with Belinda and Leon for dinner and a game of pool. Unfortunately we lost the pool challenge - I think D's competitive streak caused him to lose his cool a bit (say no more!).
Day 2 was interesting we decided to go on a longtail boat trip around the island and around Phi Phi Lay a neighbouring island. What we didn't expect was 15 people on a small boat for 6 hours and for 4 of them to be hefty girls!!! The most hairy bit was when the girls either exited or entered the boat as you quite literally felt like the boat was about to capsize. In the end one British girl had to give up and go home as she was so concerned about her safety. The day was quite overcast and we were so low in the water that we got absolutely soaked and so cold!!! The journey was made even more pleasant (?) by the prescence of 3 drunk Australian girls who had just been to Bangkok for boob jobs. They stunk of alcohol, were covered in bruising around the bust area and had lovely scars under the armpits. To top it all off they all wore bikins that were one size too small. Poor D didn't know where to look particularly when one took her top off! Actually I'll rephrase that he knew exactly where to look as he commented on the fact that her boobs were pointing to space! That said the trip was actually really good we went snorkelling, visited some gorgeous beaches and went to 'The Beach' film location.
In the evening we went to the infamous Reggae bar - which invites both girls and boys, for the prize of a bucket of alcohol, to enter a thai boxing ring and fight each other. This actually sounds worse than it is - there is a referee in the ring and the fighters wear full protective clothing. As it's Thai boxing they earn points for both kicking and punching. As a rule I don't like watching fighting but this was actually quite interesting to watch as it was quite tame.
Our accommodation in Phi Phi was a rather plush establishment for us and we were delighted to find a proper shower cubicle - at long last we could go to the toilet without paddling in water. But alas our excitement was short lived when we realised that the shower cublicle didn't have a plug hole and the water drained away through a hole in the side of the cubicle to - yes you've guessed it - a drain by the side of the toilet so we were still paddling!
