I have to say I've loved Hong Kong - it's just a shame that our visit here has been cut short because of the trains. We were hoping to come here on Saturday the 15th but it was fully booked when we went for our tickets so we had to come on the 17th.
Our accommodation is classic - we are in the 'Mirador Mansions' on the 13th floor - but do not be mistaken by the name this is no mansion! Every time the door opens at a different floor you hold your breath to see what will greet you - brothels, tailors, smart offices, dodgy shops…it's all here! We have the tiniest room, with no natural light and we shower in the toilet. Oh well all part of the experience and it's cheap.
That said I still love Hong Kong! In the evening we went to watch 'The Light Symphony'. This basically involves classical music being blasted out on the Kowloon side of the harbour (where we are all stood) whilst the buildings on the Hong Kong Island side of the bay perform an amazing light show in time to the music for 20 mins - it was brilliant!
On the second day we took the infamous star ferry over to Hong Kong Island and the equally infamous tram up to 'The Peak'. Blimey that thing is steep - I have a fear of rolling backwards when going up steep hills in vehicular transport so this was all a bit hairy for me. Worse still, just at the steepest point, we stopped at a station to let someone on. You should have seen them trying to walk to their seats bearing in mind that we were probably at an approx gradient of 28 degrees. It was worth it though - the views were spectacular and it was a lovely sunny day.
We spent the evening on this side of the Harbour and my love of the place was just compounded with all the cool bars and restaurants in the area. We had a few drinks and a great Thai meal.
