So many different nights out in the last few days.......it's aaaaaaah
Texas
First day in Austin, Texas was amazing....... Defo one of my fav cities, ESP at night....the day was spent walking around Austin and spending late afternoon at the Texas Beer Garden, listening to a live band and drinking freshly made vodka and coke, yum! Highlight was defo a poster of possible sighting of RYAN GOSLING ( sadly untrue)
We then headed to the hostel ( so much fun with all of us sharing the same room ) and had some spaghetti bolognaise made by kip- double yum...... (We all felt brave at this point to check on our weight- conclusion: the scales were waaaaay off!) .... And then we were all glammed up for our Saturday night out and Texas did not disappoint! Texans sure know how to party...... After bar hopping a couple of places, we ended up at a bar which had Duelling Pianos ( defo look out for these as they are the up and coming entertainment) ....... Basically consists of 2 giant pianos onstage and 2 different pianists playing it- the customers put in requests for songs and sing along while the professionals play....... A very cheeky/ fun environment with guys dancing to single ladies and the gangnam style ( defo not for the faint hearted as you will be picked on) defo going to look this up when I get back to London, loved it!
The next day we were due to go on a swamp tour but sadly it got cancelled due to engine failure so we spent a few good hours at the shopping mall instead ( I'm afraid I have started accumulating stuff- but not to worry, I plan to completely revamp my luggage when I get to New York)
Lafayette
By early evening we arrived in Lafayette ( stop gap on the way to New Orleans) and were so surprised!!! We arrived at our accommodation, had one look at the outside and prayed to god we had been double booked or something- the place looked hideous........ It had a tiny entrance and was full of people coming in and out ( due to a cat convention we later found out) As you can imagine, we were not pleased when we found out we were indeed staying at this place..........the looks on our faces as we unloaded our luggage was priceless ....... The inside however was a transformation- it was the quirkiest/ cosiest house I had ever seen....... It was so great we decided to take a break from our infamous nights out and make food at home and have a night in....... So much fun cooking together ( mashing the potatoes was a highlight- safe to say we went a little crazy and made enough to feed an army - or at least the rest of the guests at the inn)
New Orleans
Next day we arrived in new Orleans!!!!! Such a beautiful city named the 'French quarters' with all the old fashioned buildings.
First stop in this exciting city was LAUNDRY! In the most retro laundromat I had ever seen- complete with a pacman and a jukebox....... Kind of reminded me of the laundromat in Friends when Ross was teaching Rachel how to wash clothes........used the time wisely here to catch up with mum and manju:)
We spent the first evening in New Orleans experiencing authentic creole cuisine along with (quite possibly) my new fav drink- The Hurricane.
The next day in New Orleans, we managed to have a great big lie in ( finally) ........ We spent the day rummaging through the French market, spent hours in the dressing room, helping Lucy pick a dress for our Mississippi River cruise in the evening.......the cruise was lovely but defo a bit short......the highlight had to be turning around after hearing the girls scream to see Das rolling around on the floor- apparently he could jump over a fence (but his toe decided not to play along and tripped him over) We refused to let the night end though and it turned into another legendary night when we discovered Miaow Cats- the best karaoke bar ever!!! Cheesiest songs+out of tune singers + more Hurricanes= a very drunken night......any opportunity we got, we were on the dance stage........
Have to say some of the best moments on these trips has been the journeys in the van...... Had an interesting game of celebrity heads on the way to New Orleans ( where you have to guess which celebrity you are based on a few yes and no questions) ......... Only in this game would you end up describing the queen as a rich lady who does nothing.....
Next stop has been Memphis but I truly believe this city deserves its own page with all the history attached to it so watch this space xx
