Had a couple of great days travelling across from Mt Isa to Alice Springs.
First overnight was at Barkly Homestead. A surprising oasis in the Northern Territory, not far from Three Ways, the junction to Darwin, Qld and Alice Springs. Good to see green grass and have power and water after a long day of driving.
Only a smaller day of driving (4 hrs) to Devils Marbles, after driving through Tennant Creek. We free camped at the camp site at this marvel. We thought we were so lucky to camp in this spot with just a few other camps at 2pm when we arrived. Little did we know that by 5pm that there would be over 30 camps all on top of each other.
Our serenity was spoiled, but the natural wonder of the area wasn’t. There was something magical about the site, including the geological wonder of the large boulder like formations. We could see why it is a sacred site for 4 Aboriginal tribes
Don’t get me wrong, travelling long distances with 2 eight year olds in hot, dry dusty conditions, is not all beautiful and fluffy. There are days when we are totally sick of each other’s company, I am sick and tired of trying to make creative meals in cramped conditions and we all want to get back home to our normal beds and Dusty the dog.
This trip is teaching us all resilience and gratitude.
