Deb's Adventures
Mt Princeton Hot Springs Resort is awesome. We slept with the windows open so the cool mountain air could fill the cabin. We could hear the river flowing past in the night and we all woke rested and happy. After breakfast we went to the hot springs pool and just plain old relaxed for a few hours. We were able to get a late checkout so we did not have to rush to pack up and leave our cabin. At around 11:15 we managed to drag ourselves from the pool and pack up. We drove 11 miles up the road to a little ghost town called St Elmo. St Elmo was a bustling mining town in the late 1800's now they boast a permanent year round population of 2. The Buena Vista Historical Society has done a nice job of maintaining the town and there is one building that serves as a gift shop and snack bar.
Immediately after pulling into town we found a spot near the old jail to enjoy our usual picnic lunch. After lunch we explored the few block of Main Street. My favorite part of St Elmo is the chipmunks. Lesley and Ray have been enamored with our chipmunks and squirrels since they arrived. Today they got to have a close-up experience with them. They are very tame here at St Elmo and will eat out of your hands and sit in your lap. It is super cute.
We saw all that St Elmo had to offer and started making our way back down the mountain. As we were driving back past the hot springs we decided we needed one more soak. Our passes are good until the end of the day.
At around 4:30 we once again dragged ourselves from the pool and set out for Canon City. Not much happens in Canon City. It is just a place to sleep so we can get up bright and early tomorrow morning and go Zip Lining. Ray and I are so excited I hope we can sleep tonight.
We arrived at our Hotel around 6pm and got settled in. It was a little breezy out so we had to set up our grill and evening picnic right in front of the hotel that would then block the wind. It was one of the more humorous places we have picnicked so far. There is a fire ban going on and one of the guests was not happy with our 10 inch $6 grill and called the police on us. The officer drove by took one look and thankfully continued down the road.
PS. Thank you for all the comments. Lesley and Ray were so excited to hear from you.
