The overnight bus to Nha Trang was long and uncomfortable. Lots of stopping and starting made it impossible to sleep. At some point in the early hours we were driving along side the sea and Ben woke me up to show me hundreds of white lights floating in the water as far as the eye could see. We still have no idea what they were. At 5.30am we were rudely awoken by one of the drivers walking up and down the bus shouting "Saigon?" "Saigon?" in a stupid high pitched voice. Seen as how Saigon was still hours off and most of us were getting off soon in Nha Trang we were not impressed by this disturbance. At 6.30am we stumbled off the bus into the early morning heat. We had a slight moment of panic when Ben picked up his bag and the padlock was gone and the bag was half empty....turned out to be someone else with the same bag.
Our new hotel was just around the corner from the bus stop. We checked in immediately and caught up on a few hours sleep. That afternoon we took the short walk down the road to the beach....more white sand and blue seas....gorgeous. That night we had planned on fish and chips for tea. Ben had found the restaurant on the internet a few weeks ago and had been looking forward to it ever since. We found where it was on google maps and set off to search for it. We wandered around for a good half hour in the general area but could not see "something fishy" anywhere. After asking a few people we eventually found a building site in the place of where the restaurant should be....devastated. However, we ended up in a good seafood restaurant instead.
The following day started with a bang when Ben was trying to improve the signal of the telly to watch the boxing. Whilst repositioning the TV the wire came out of its plug and when Ben tried to put it back the fuse blew and the power to our room went out....the shame:-) In the afternoon we explored the length of the beach and were impresseed by all the beachside resorts, bars and restaurants. After relaxing on the beach we went for beers in one of the posh beachside bars...lovely. For tea we found a restaurant serving up proper sunday roasts:-)
On our final day in Nha Trang we went to look at the local Catherdral and the nearby pagoda and large buddha. It was a very long, hot walk to get to them but well worth it. We ended the day back at the beach bar as we said our final goodbye to Vietnam beaches.
