Our journey from Thailand to Malaysia was not short...what a surprise. We were headed for the island of Langkawi at the far north of Malaysia and from Railay beach this involved, one long tail boat, 2 mini buses, 2 tuk tuks, a ferry and 1 taxi. Only Me, ben and a lad from America were making the trip, for 19 he could tell a good joke:-) After a full day of travelling we finally made it to Langkawi and checked into a basic guesthouse, which was run by a crazy lady who didn't mind using the occasional swear word.
The next day we got to know "The crazy Lady" or Leo a little better, she turned out to be really nice....and by really nice I mean overly friendly and not afraid to express, IN DETAIL, her need for physical involvement with the same sex. We also got chatting to an english guy called Steve who was staying at the same place on a two week holiday. That evening Steve invited us on a trip into the centre along with him and Leo, for a bit of food and duty free shopping....how could we refuse. Steve drove us in his hire car and Leo took us to a good local restaurant and paid for our food....what a bargain night! Afterwards, the four of us went out and Leo dished out a load of vouchers for free drinks in a local club :-). We spent the following day arranging our onward travel. Due to the long journey on to Kuala Lumpur (K.L.) we decided we would try and get a cheap flight......So, we did manage to find a cheap flight, but in my rush to book it I accidently booked us onto a flight leaving the evening of the same day instead of the following day!!! Whooops!!! This left us with only a few hours to go to the nearby cable cars, get back, pack, have a meal with Steve (He had been kind enough to offer to take us out for tea) and get to the airport. And this was exactly what we did, minus the cable car ride.....as usual our perfect timing meant we arrived at the cable cars at the exact same time as a massive storm and it got shut minutes before our arrival, due to bad weather. However, we did manage to pack, enjoy a lovely meal with steve and get to our flight on time.
We arrived into K.L. and checked into our accomodation....probably our worst yet!! We survived the night and 2 more after that!! K.L. was still very warm and we spent the first day walking around a large park before heading over to the impressive Petronas Towers. We took the time to shop in the very big, posh shopping complex under the towers whilst waiting for it to go dark and see the towers all lit up, Ben replaced a couple of his t-shirts. We had hoped for another cheap flight to take us from K.L to Singapore. No such luck, and so we booked onto a 7 hour bus ride.
We arrived into Singapore in the sun and checked into our accomodation in "Little India". And it really was little India. We had indian breads and curry sauce for breakfast, similar foods for tea and bunked down in an 8 bed dorm with Indians snoring all night and setting alarms at 4am in order to pray! arggghhhh!! Despite very little sleep we made it to the Singapore zoo the following day (just about, after missing our bus) and spent hours walking around. White tigers and giraffes came out as the favourites.
Our time in Singapore was dramatically rescued and upgraded, on day 2, by a very nice guy called Kenny. Kenny is a work colleague of my dads and had arranged to meet up with us. Kenny well and truly treated us and showed us the highlights of singapore in the best possible way. First off we went to one of Singapores best restaurants. He waltzed us in without reservations and got the best table by the river with views of the impressive Marina Sands Building. Half way through our 6 course meal, the marina sands displayed a very impressive lazer and fire show. After the meal Kenny took us over to the Marina Sands Casino and up onto the observation deck on the 67th floor. Here we all had Singapore slings and enjoyed the views of the city....amazing. The following day Kenny picked us up and drove us around the city, showing us different areas and explaining the history. He then introduced us to one of his work colleagues (clearly a guy with a lot of money). We spent the afternoon being driven around in posh sports cars (Audi RS5) that had extremely fast acceration, enjoying lunch with Singapores most successful business men and then ....having our fortunes told. A rather unexpected ending, but Kennys friend insisted we do this as he relied on his fortune teller for most of his investments....and so far he had not been dissapointed. Our fortunes were nothing spectacular and unfortunately no hints of investments worth millions were given.
At the end of the day Kenny very kindly drove us to airport and dropped us off in time for our flight onto AUSTRALIA!
