After the capital of Cambodia we headed south and to the coast. Our original destination was a small town called Kampot but we ended up being persuaded to get off early at Kep by two others travelling on the same bus. Kep is a small market town on the edge of the sea and specialises in catching, cooking and selling fresh seafood. Our new friends from the bus had plans to stop off at the Kep crab market for lunch and continue on to Kampot later. Not wanting to miss out on the fresh crab we decided to join them. The market was very crowded and full of stalls selling all types of seafood, after a few samples we headed to a little restaurant, overlooking the sea, for freshly cooked crab. It was very messy but tasted amazing - well worth the stop.
After our crab feast we carried on to the sleepy town of Kampot....the VERY sleepy town. We stayed in a hostel run by 2 english guys and enjoyed the chip butties and pub quiz:-) As there was little to do here we booked a bus for the next morning to continue on to Sihanoukville where the beach is.
We arrived at sihanoukville mid morning, caught a tuk tuk down to the secluded Otres beach and checked into a little wooden bungalow. The beach here was amazing with the sea being extremely warm with huge waves, and the sand being soft all the way out with no pebbles or rocks. We spent two days enjoying the beach and the local food.
We then set off back up north, stopping briefly again in Phnom Penh and then continuing on to Siem Reap.
