Richmond to ingleby cross
22.5 miles
Depart 0820
Arrive 1845
Longest Day of the walk both in distance and time on the path.
This would be the final bit if flat countryside before hitting the north York moors. Because of all the rain the paths were just slick mud and for every step you took forward you took half a step back or to the side. It was a similar experience to being on ice skates for the first time.
But we plodded on with good cheer and met up with tabitha and Andy again for the good couple of hours before they sprinted off.
The only visitor attraction was a church along the way which we only went into as a local practically ordered us in after seeing we were about to walk by it.
As ordered we entered the churchyard to. It's the grave a very old man. 167 it was said though guessing he may have lied about his age. Inside the church there was a plaque in his honour. There was also a Visitor book and maps of uk and the works for coast to coasters to record where they had come from and so I placed my pin had done squash and we were on our way again.
Following this was more of the same but with Steve getting excited about various train lines we were crossing and taking pictures (works for virgin trains).
Danby wiske at mile 17 was a godsend and eloise almost cried when we eventually reached the town she was so happy. A local pub, fruitcake , blister puncture and 45 min rest and we were all reinvigorated and good to go for the last stretch.
More unending muddy paths until Reaching the A1 which needed to be crossed and with our bridge or underpass it was a quick dash that was required. Trying to run after walking 20 miles didn't produce any fast times but all made it safety across and then it was just 10 mins down into ingleby cross.
