After last nights storms there was drama by the pool when part of a tree fell down. A cry went up from a Russian couple and the Thais came strolling (no fatal injuries so no need for running). The sun lounger was a write off but with their usual disregard for health and safety, the staff weren't in the least bit concerned.
To avoid injury we decided a walk on the beach was required and we were able to watch some of the Asian Beach Games heats. When we were there Laos men's boules team were beating China but the Laos ladies were not doing so well against Myanmar. Yvonne was interested to see the wrestlers but David said there were more interesting sights further along the beach - all Yvonne saw were yet more well polished Russian ladies in small bikinis.
To raise the tone the games had traditional Thai dancing with an orchestra. Over dinner we enjoyed some less traditional Thai dancing, hula, and then even less traditional, dancing with a pole attached to lit fireworks. It was up to their usual terrifying approach to health and safety. Luckily the people in the front row were careful and moved their half drunk bottle of whisky to avert an inferno. Then back to the traditional evening Thai dancing complete with poles, very high heels and small outfits.
Finally the bars of Soi Bangla are keen to join in with the beach games and were hosting a ping pong championship or at least we hope that was what they were showing us pictures of. David wants to join in the mixed doubles championship but Yvonne is concerned whether strenuous activity is covered in the travel insurance.
