Today we divided and conquered: David did the Bondi to Coogee cliff top walk and Yvonne did the shops.
David
The first obstacle was getting from Bondi Junction train station to Bondi Beach. The guidebook suggested a bus at the train station would whisk you to the beach in 15 mins, what it didn't mention was the 20000 other people with the same plan causing chaos at the station. Not wanting to wait David decided to use his treking skills and bushcraft knowledge to walk to the beach avoiding waiting for the bus. Using only the direction of the shadows, prevailing winds and a map downloaded onto his IPhone the trip only took approx1 hour by which time the 20000 people had also made their way to the beach and we're getting off the bus - b*****. After a quick refreshment David started on the coastal walk imagining breathtaking cliff vistas, open countryside, peace and tranquility, but no the 20000 people were finished with Bondi and joined him on the walk where he shuffled at 0,5 miles an hour - not a happy camper. After a couple of coves however the crowds dissipated and it was then quite a nice walk to Coogee. On the way David came across a bowling green on the edge of a cliff and a massive cemetery, not sure if these are linked as bowling is a trendy high octane sport out here and not for the faint hearted (cliff bowls). After a couple of refreshments in Coogee he made his way back to Bondi Junction with necessary refreshment stops on the way. Distance covered 30kms, 2 sore feet and a dizzy head - happy.
Yvonne's shopping trip involved underground exploration, cake, dancing elves, reindeer, tree and snow in central Sydney where it has never snowed in living memory. The underground exploration was due to all the shops being interconnected under the roads. You would enter on on side of the street and pop up on the opposite or even more strangely sometimes several streets away. There are also tunnels connecting the shops to the underground system and these underground shopping and transport systems have floors and floors. It's amazing there are any people on the streets there's so much beneath them - a complete warren. No wonder they call it down under. The dancing Christmas characters (who appeared to like hip hop) and snow were in aid of the start of the official Christmas shopping. Very strange snow falling from the sky in blazing sunshine and everyone in shorts and flip flops. After careful examination of the climactic conditions, decided it was possibly fake snow.
Finished the day in a traditional Irish-Aussie pub.
