Seville
Seville is sooo hot. It is officially the hottest place in Europe. It delivered 45 degree days for me n Matt.
The place is beautiful and a must-see when visiting Spain which is a place that doesn't get a lot of tourist attention. The architecture here is sensational, and there is plenty to see if you can survive the heat.
We stayed at a nice little hostel that had a great kitchen so we took the opportunity to cook meals each night. We even made some nice little parma's one night to remind us of home. I uploaded a photo of our cuisine!
We would check Seville out in the morning and then escape to our air-conditioned rooms in the afternoon as it is way too hot. The highlight for me was Plaza de Espana, which is pictured above. It was made for a world's fair like the Eiffel Tower. It is a huge building with a beautiful river/moat thing around it. It is now used for government affairs. It has great artwork around it representing the 20 odd states of spain and the river that surrounded it made it look so nice. You can actually hire a boat to go around the river which would be an epic waste of money but it looked funny that they would offer that service. They actually filmed a scene from the new star wars here at the plaza, because it does have an out-of-this world feel about it.
We did a pubcrawl one night and got to experience a bit of Spanish culture. They take the whole group to a little room with a stage and we all sat around a little confused. They poured us all a glass of sangria which is the local drink, it's a redwine/juice/gin/god knows what else in it drink. It taste good tho!
Then 2 men and woman came out. The man started singing a spanish love ballad and the other man played his little guitar really quickly. The woman was just sitting there doing nothing and we were all saying 'whats here deal? Is she a groupie?'.
All of a sudden she stood up staring passionatley at the back of the room with the scariest eyes… then she started harcore flemenco dancing. It was unbelievable, she was tapping her feet so fast they disappeared. I was impressed and glad I got to see a bit of real culture and the singing man gave it every thing he had too.
Then we went out with a big group to an open air night club (no roof) which I really enjoyed as there is little humidity here so at night its very bearable.
A few funny things about Spain, every day at 3pm they go for a 'siesta' which means they close up all the shops and go home, close the shutters and take a nanna nap for a few hours. If I went into a supermarket at 6pm I had the whole place to myself… if you go into a supermarket at 9pm you can hardly get around because of all the people. They eat dinner at 10 here. No offence to the Spanish but ive never seen a lazier group of people! I guess they prefer to be called 'laid back'
When you go out at night, the nightclubs are empty until 3am then all the Spanish start going out, no wonder they sleep in the day they must be stuffed!
