We caught a train from Barcelona and got off at beautiful Benicassim, this place is paradise. Our Music Festival (FIB Benicassim 2011) was hosting us for the next 4 nights camping. We bought a tent, esky and mats for sleeping in Barcelona before we left so we were very set up. We met some nice people around us in the campsite, one in particular, Joanne from Sydney was a bit annoying. She kept tagging on to whatever we were doing and using our stuff, we got a bit over Joanne very quickly.
The festival was truly epic, I saw in a Spanish Newspaper that 200,000 people went to the festival. The crowd was just huge.
First night I saw Pendulum, I was right at the front and their music is pretty extreme. Was very rough but I loved it, I had a lot of bruises and a sore arm the next day - totally worth it. They put on a great show.
Second night I saw Elbow, who were brilliant! The lead singer has one of the best voices you will ever hear. I also saw the Strokes, who were very solid, but a bit arrogent aswell which I didn't like.
Third night I saw Arctic Monkeys who I really enjoyed, I also saw Tame Impala, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Mumford & Sons, all were exceptionally good. Was great to see Tame Impala here, being australian guys it reminded me of home a bit.
Last night was the best because I got to see Arcade Fire in front of 100,000 people, I had a great spot, I held it for an hour before the gig so I got the best experience. They played this song at the end called 'Wake Up' which was just truly amazing, imagine 100,000+ people chanting the same tune. I also saw Portishead and Friendly Fires that night who I hadnt heard much of but now want to learn more about them!
Besides the music, a four night festival is exhausting, I was so stuffed by the end. The Bands play through the night until about 5am and you are meant to recover through the day on the beach but we were getting 35 degree days, and you can imagine how uncomfortable a tent can get in that heat after drinking. The beach was beautiful tho, and the water was nice and warm too. This was the first sand beach I had been too on my euro adventure so far and we made the most of it.
I write this entry from a hotel in Benicassim which I can tell you is like living in a palace after camping at a festival. I don't think I will ever forget that hot shower I just had to get off layers and layers of dirt and stink!
We had a nice dinner just then and I will get a huge a sleep tonight and feel brand new again tomorrow. Good times here!
David.

Mum Great photo Dave, you must have been pretty close to the stage. You would have been so excited to see all those acts. I can imagine how exhausted you would have been - but hey you're only young once.
