Our Barcelona experience was hindered by a few things but overall is one of the best places I have been. It was hindered because firstly it week took a 9 hour bus from Santander so when we finally got there we were tired and the day was done, the next day we had to change hostels cos of availability and thirdly I had to spend half a day in a train station lining up for a train ticket to Benicassim the next day to our music festival, seem everyone had the same idea.
So apart from those little things, the time I did get to spend checking out Barcelona was amazing. They have this church which i think is called the seguda familiar, or something like that, was really epic. We saw it as part of a free tour of Goudi (a famous Barcelonan architect); we saw lots of his houses he designed which all looked fairly hideous to us! I think goudi may have been drunk trying to build some of his houses. But he did a damn good job on this cathedral.
It actually isn’t finished yet, they predict his grand design will finally be complete in 2030, which is just a bit late for goudi to see his own work complete considering he died over 50 years ago.
I had to stay in a different hostel to the boys because our hostel messed up a booking, which worked out really well because I got to meet some great people in the different hostel. I went to dinner with three Australians and got some Paella and Sangria, which is the national dish and drink here in Spain. Sam and Fedda were off somewhere else at their hostel and I was pretty happy to have some space and do my own thing for a bit.
I actually ended up doing a pub crawl with the guys from my room while fedda and Sam went and had drinks with some Dutch dudes. Had a great night we had a group from our hostel of about 7 and we joined a bigger group for the crawl but we all stuck together and got to know each other. I met a guy who looked EXACTLY like prince William, the first thing i said to him was 'has anyone ever said you..' and he replied before i could finish my sentence 'yes, yes I get it all the time' , I think he hated it!! royal wedding wouldn’t of helped .
Thats bout all we got to do in Barcelona unfortunately, the rest of the trip was preparing for our music festival which we were going to camp for, we bought a cheap tent, little roll out matts to sleep on and an eksy which all up costs us about 25 euro each. Everything in Spain is dirt cheap, we have been buying a 1 litre beer bottle for €1.16. Australia has ridiculously overpriced alcohol i have learnt.
We did eventually get Benicassim Train Tickets after a good 4 hour wait, which was our next destination.
