Our Year of Adventure
We slept well on Cruz Del Sur's big, wide 'Cama' seats until they decided to put the lights on before arrival at Lima's Plaza Norte. We weren't even getting off there but we had to give our blankets and pillows back even though it was another hour before our station at Javier Prado.
They pulled into the station on time at 6am and we were quickly off the bus and collected our luggage. We decided that since it was quiet at that time in the morning, we would buy our tickets to our next destination Ica for Thursday.
A taxi quickly took us through the morning traffic to Miraflores and we were able to get our room straight away when we checked in at Hosteria Angiolina, despite being so early in the morning.
After a quick shower, we took a walk down to the sea front. There wasn't much of a view though due to all the fog rolling in from the sea. There was a shopping mall, Larco Mar, built into the cliff edge so we wandered through there. To our surprise there was a Juan Valdez Cafe, there was no way we were going to pass up on the chance of some good Colombian coffee.
We killed some more time by walking around the shops, waiting for lunch time. Tony Roma's had ocean view tables (the fog was lifting) and special lunchtime menu.
Maria had a nap in the afternoon while David did some work on the blog. We had pre-arranged to meet Andy and Carlee at a Japanese restaurant but it was closed for renovations. They had found another one on their morning walk so we arranged to meet there at 6pm. Turned out it didn't open until 7pm so we went to find Miraflores' "Pizza Street", a pedestrian street that is full of pizza and pasta restaurants.
With every restaurant offering pretty much the same fare, it was hard to choose where to go. That was until the waiter of one offered us free Pisco Sour's. We had pizza again but didn't mind, because when it's good you can never have too much pizza. The restaurant even served one litre steins of beer so that was an added bonus that David really enjoyed.
The streets seemed to get even busier in the evening and they felt safe to walk on. There was a restaurant below our room which was busy until midnight - it kept Maria awake but David was blissfully unaware and slept like a baby.
