Our Year of Adventure
The temperature had been gradually creeping up towards freezing point recently and by this morning it reached it. By the time sun came up around 10am, the mercury was going through the roof. Finland is a bit different when they talk about temperature, they use the word 'plus' when it's warmer than freezing...so today it was 'plus four'. By no means warm enough to start shedding the layers of clothes, it was warm enough to start melting the snow however.
It was very windy up the slopes so we decided to skip snowboarding and stay down in the forest for a walk in the snow shoes instead. Armed with a thermos flask and a pack of sausages we headed for a fire pit.
In the evening, David met up with the Äkäslompolo Sauna & Beer Tasting Club again. The outside air temperature and the water temperature in the ice hole were supposed to be the same but I'm not sure whether that makes it any easier or not - he still made it into the ice hole a respectable three times before heading to the pub for beer tasting.
