Our Year of Adventure
We had an afternoon flight back to Quito but transport back to the airport wasn't so simple. The last bus leaving Puerto Ayora to the channel was at 8am. The bus terminal was on the outskirts of town too, so we needed to take a taxi there to begin with. After the bus ride, we then had to take a ferry across the channel and then another bus to shuttle us to the airport. It was a long journey for such a short distance but we were still very early. Too early to even check in so we made our way, with our bags, to the food court and settled in for a long wait. It did give us some time to do some blogging.
Once on the plane, it was a pleasant flight direct to Quito, only the morning flight goes via Guayaguil. Being a domestic flight there was no wine served with the meal - that was a disappointment.
We took a taxi back to old town and went to see if Hotel Yumbo Imperial, where we stayed previously, had any vacancies. The owners remembered us and found us a nice, big room overlooking the road. As an added bonus, there was a really good WiFi signal in the room. The owners were really keen to hear all about our Galápagos trip.
We went to Vista Hermosa for dinner, behind Plaza Grande. Its 6th floor rooftop terrace has a beautiful 360 degree view of the city. It was little bit chilly because it was late evening but we braved it. The food and drink was a bit more pricey than we are used to paying but we got a good, well cooked steak and a nice glass of wine.
Instead of taking the ancient elevator back to the ground floor, we took the stairs and were amazed by the random and interesting collections, from toy cars to telephones and irons, that were on display.
