We reluctantly had to leave Huahine after 5 nights of staying in the Robinson Cruiso paradise. Although we were happy to leave the irritating mosquitos, which although not anywhere near as bad as Mexico, were a bit of a nuisance.
On our last morning we actually got see the sunrise from the sea - something Dave had never seen before in all his travels.
So we boarded our Air Tahiti flight which we have been plesently suprised about so far - always on time and very comfortable, headed for Bora Bora. We had heard nothing but jokes about the island paradise since we arrived in French Polynesia - mainly that it was overcrowded and that they actually grew tourists! (we found that quite amuzing). We have never been so interested in seeing a country from the plane before but as we circled the south pacific paradise we were transfixed by the amass of green and blue water - it looked beautiful.
Upon arrival we were not disappointed - even from the plane we were greeted by the hotel boat and whisked away to our hotel, through the turquoise lagoon. It is simply stunning! Even more than that it was completely spectacular.
And our hotel - well we had paid through the nose for it but it was worth every penny - situated in the centre of green water we had a bungalow out about 200m into the reef, with only a walkway to the shore. It had a priavte sundeck, and jetty where you could descend into the crystal clear waters. Better than that our coffee table was made of glass and the top was movable so we could feed the tropical fish below the bungalow, and to top it off it had a light that illuminated the sea below the table at night. The facilities in the bungalow were also superb, fridge, huge bed, bath (yes we were very excited about the bath!), view of the sunrise etc... The snorkelling around the jetty was superb - visability was incredible - and we got to sea pufferfish, an amass of flute fish, Trigger fish, Zebra fish, clown fish and hundreds more. Dave got to do another dive which was completely different to Huhaine - the visability was amazing, the dive outfit were extremely professional and really friendly - and the sights were unreal. The highlights were the massive sea cucumbers, a scorpian fish (very difficult to spot as very dangerous creatures and they blend in with the sand), a whole host of black tip reef sharks, amoung hundreds of tropical fish and reef creatures. But the bonus was the sudden emergance of a family of Lemon Sharks - these are real big and look completely bad ass! (couldn't think of a better description). They circuled us for a while just interested to see what we were! It was so cool... This was the best dive he has done so far.
We ate fish the whole time we were there including a trip to the infamous Bloody Marys (from the film South Pacific), where the stars eat! It was really cool experience - you get to select your fish from fresh when you arrive - Megan had the white Tuna and Dave had the Tazal fish - very tasty! The food in general except for the resort was incredible.
The resort beach was also stunning, with a private beach and pool on one side and a sunset public beach on the other - it was literally the perfect location. So perfect that we got engaged on our first night while watching the stars from our private jetty. Although there was no ring involved Megan got a set of Tahitian pearl earings, and the ring will follow in New Zealand or Australia (before you all badger him about this - it was better to get Megan to help with sizes and style because we couldn't take it back if it was from Canada, America or even Central America!)((better safe than sorry)).
So the conclusion was we never want to leave this island - it was by far the most beautiful island we have both ever been to and now it will hold a special place with us both.
Simply unreal - its was beyond decription - just see the photos and you will see - we would recommend this place to everyone.
