David and Julie Browning's Travels
Ok, we're into the home stretch now, just 5 more days 'til we leave for
home. We've decided to cram as much as we can in before we leave. So,
first stop Edinburgh. Overnight rain and freezing temps have made some
of the roads hazardous to travel on, so caution may be the order of the
day.
Approaching Edinburgh on the M8 motorway, we
pass long queues of traffic heading the other way - held up by numerous
accidents earlier in the morning. Road seems free of ice so we made good
time and are soon at our destination well before lunch.
Half a day is not much time to explore a large city like Edinburgh, so we've
decided to limit it to seeing the Edinburgh Castle. This enables us to check off
another must do item - ride a double decker bus. The castle is amazing.
Reading the different info plaques placed around the castle, you soon
realize that the Scots have had a long and bloody history, filled with
warring clans, political skulduggery, and plain old murder and
assassination. The castle is huge, so its well into the afternoon by
time we finish. Enough time to check off another must do item - have
some good old fashioned fish and chips (you wouldn't believe how hard it
is to find a fish and chip shop in UK!!).
Tonight we venture out to find an Olde English pub for a feed, and to sample the local beer. Starting to like this English beer.
