David and Julie Browning's Travels
Today is our first full day in Athens for sightseeing. So after some breakfast in the hotel we set off in search of some decent coffee. It seems like drinking coffee is the national past-time in Athens - there appears to be coffee shops everywhere you go (NIRVANA!!!!). Next its off to the main attraction of the stay - the Acropolis.
Even tho every tourist seems to head there, its still a worthwhile experience. After all its a place where civilisations started and fell. The very stones
ooze history. And we are not talking about a couple of decades here (like the old Townsville General) - we're talking thousands of years here. A place where Archimedes and Aristotle roamed. It's a humbling experience to walk thru the ruins.
The Acropolis has taken a few hours to do (1 hour to walk up - two hours to walk around -
half hour to walk down) so we stop at a little restaurant at the base of
the Acropolis for some lunch and ouzo - and very nice it was too. Then
its off for some more walking and discovering before heading back to the
hotel to rest up before heading out again for the evening. Stay tuned.
