David and Julie Browning's Travels
Today we head across to Argos, the commercial capital of the region.
It's about 15km to the north of Nafplion. We hope to visit a couple of
ancient sits and explore the town itself (and what better way to explore
than to partake in the local eating/coffee establishments). The local
museum provides some valuable information as to what sort of settlement
was here in ancient times (Argos is the most ancient town in Greece and
Europe)
After exploring the town, we head off to find the main attractions of the
area, the Ancient Agora, and the Ancient Theatre. The theatre is bigger
thsn the one at Epidavros, It has been carved into the hill, rather than
built stone by stone like the one at Epidavros. If you stand on the
speakers spot and talk, the accoustics of the place make it sound like
your amidst a surround sound system. Take just one step off the spot in
any direction and the sound reverts back to normal. Not bad for a time
without microphones or spectrum analysers.
By mid afternoon it's time to head back to Nafplion and start getting ready to
head back to Athens tomorrow. Then its off to Italy for the next stage
of our odyssey.
Greece has been a wonderful experience - its been everything we hoped for. Hopefully Italy will
provide the same sort of enjoyment and experiences.
