David and Julie Browning's Travels
Finally arrived in Athens. What a welcome sight. Disembarked from aircraft, collected luggage, negotiated passport control, went thru customs check (non existent) and caught a taxi - all in under 20 minutes, must be a record for an international airport.
Finally got to our hotel, The Plaka, only to find our room was unavailable due to damage cased by a school group (schoolies here too???). However, the desk manager had arranged an alternate booking at their sister hotel, The Hermes, including free taxi transfer, so all turned out well in the
end.
Finally settled into our new hotel (and very nice it is too). After a bit of rest and recuperation we headed off to explore the streets of Athens and go in search of food, wine and good
coffee.
Found a great restaurant/eatery called Thanisis Kebabs - we had the best tasting kebabs and souvlaki ever, all made from fresh produce and herbs - a perfect way to finish our first day in Athens.
My (Julie) turn now, no more of this travel log ****. Athens could not be any more like I have imagined it to be than if it was actually Athens. (sounds like I am talking Greek hehehehe)I mean red gingham table clothes, everyone eating out, 4 yr olds smoking (well thats what it seems like with every second person smoking)truly amazing.!!!!!!!
