David and Julie Browning's Travels
Flew into Paris yesterday from Dublin. We've booked into the Novotel
hotel which is located right at the airport, with a Paris train station
right below. Unfortunately the train wasn't in operation due to terminal
renovations going on. so after we checked into the hotel, we caught the
Roissy Bus into Paris. What a horrible bus trip. Took well over an
hour. If you think driving a car in Paris is frustrating, imagine trying
to negotiate a 40ft bus through the labyrinthine streets. Finally made
it into the middle of Paris. We wanted to have a last look at the Eiffel
Tower, maybe finally go up to the top. But trying to get to it from
where the bus dropped us off proved to be too difficult. So we decided
to just have a wander around, grab some supper and then head back to the
airport/hotel.
We don't fly out until 9pm tonight. Luckily, Novotel allow you to stay until 5pm, so we only have to kill about 3hours at the airport. Not looking forward to the long flight home. Still, to do the trip we have done, it is worth it.
Well here we are. Sitting in another airport. You can tell it's time to
go home. The amount that the little things annoy you is directly
proportional to the amount of time you have spent away multiplied by the
number of kilometers you have to walk through the airport getting to
the check-in desk and then your boarding gate. At Charles de Gaulle that
would be about 2.5km.
Anyway, that's it for this year. Another wonderful trip completed. Before we sign off, a few travel tips:
- the French still make the worst coffee in the world
- Prague has the worst international airport (they still allow smoking inside the terminal)
- do not let Julie interact with French Security staff (she thinks they stink)
- it's impossible to find a comfortable bed in Europe
- every city in Europe has its own version of constitutes a shower (you also need an
engineering degree to work them out)
Apart from that, Europe is a wonderful place to visit. Full of history, fine
food, different cultures. Hopefully we'll be back this way again.
Adieu.
