David and Julie Browning's Travels
After an hours drive around Lake Annecy we get to our hotel in Talloires, a small village just outside the town of Annecy.
Its a 19th century mansion which has been converted to a hotel - quite
charming. The large windows in the room overlook the lake and the
mountains beyond - breathtaking. the room itself isn't very large, which
doesn't matter as we only have on piece of luggage anyway.
After settling in, we're both pretty tired, but we decide to push on and head
into Annecy to do some shopping to replace our lost luggage. What a
mistake. By the time we get there its getting dark and the traffic is
horrendous - ideal conditions when your driving a strange car, in a
strange country, and on the wrong side of the road. After driving around
aimlessly for a while, we give up and head back to the hotel to find
somewhere for an evening meal. Finally, the day has an upside. Found
this small cafe which served really delicious regional food ( morelles
and asparagus and a porcini ravioli). Washed down with a couple of
glasses of red wine, and we are content.
Tomorrow we'll try our luck again in Annecy, then head on up to Chamonix and Mont Blanc for some sightseeing.
