David and Julie Browning's Travels
Had a phone call from the kids at home - our missing luggage is still in
Sydney, and the airline wants to know what to do with it (no Julie,
they can't stick it there, won't fit). By the time they organise to send
it over here, we will be on the road to who knows where, it will be
playing catch-up until we get back home. Resigned to the fact we won't
see it until we return. oh well, gives us a reason to go exploring in
Annecy - shopping for clothes and sundry items.
Annecy by daylight is a much different place to explore - we even find a
parking place. Tried to buy a mobile broadband USB stick at the Orange
shop. Proved to be too hard. Spent over an hour in the shop waiting to
be served (Telco shops must be all the same), then another 1/2 hour
trying to explain what we wanted. Gave up in the end and went looking
for clothes shops instead.
We soon found ourselves in the "old" part of town (every city/village/town has an old section)
which was quite charming. Loaded ourselves up on some replacement warm
clothing as well as a few essential toiletry items, then settled into a
local cafe/brasserie for some lunch (great tasting pizza washed down
with a couple of glasses of local red).
From Annecy, we returned to the hotel via the scenic route - circuit around the lake,
taking in some breathtaking views of towering cliffs and mountains
surrounding the lake.
Postscript added on Sun 27th: Got a call from Sydney, they have on forwarded our
missing bag to Geneva. Great news - now all we have to do is try and
coordinate getting it to where we will/might be in the next couple of
days.
