Hello from a durchfall-ridden Dangerous Dave, sitting in Hong Kong airport, awaiting what I'm fairly sure is going to be a tortuous 13 hour flight....hope I'm near the toilets
What a way to start my last entry from this set of travels eh? And yes, well noted...I say this set of travels, for in addition to the bug in my bowels, I've caught another known to the layman as the travelling bug. I'm not sure yet what my next move will be, although I am sure it'll be a couple of years down the line - once I've paid off my debts and saved some more - but whether it be TEFL in South America, volunteering in Africa or India, or hedonism anywhere, I'm fairly resolved to not let HMG place its shackles on me just yet - it's been to good.
Alas my experiences of Hong Kong and Macau have been fairly brief...what I saw of Macau was from behind a taxi's window on the 10 minute drive from airport to ferry terminal, while Hong Kong's sightseeing (or mine thereof) was hindered by its apparent lack of public toilets. To use any toilets, it seems, you must first purchase something in a nearby establishment which holds the key to the problem - namely the locked door of the gent's. This found me in various salubrious establishments such as (am I allowed to mention names?) Stucksbar and DonaldsMc, hoping to peruse the and use their facilities. Not what one might call Hong Kong's highlights, but since they're there, they could be argued to constitute the real fabric of what makes Hong Kong, Hong Kong. I did get to see the outdoor, (but covered) escalators that go up the hill (down before 10:30am to help the poor commuters), into the heart of SoHo (stands for South of Hollywood Road apparently), and admire the many skyscrapers and architechtural feats that also make Hong Kong, Hong Kong. As a side, or perhaps a footnote, the tube system in HK is awesome - cheap, clean and not too smelly. Most impressed. Plus lots of little gadget type things that I'm sure the London Underground has no need of, but would certainly help.
Anyway, I'll be home in a little under 16 hours, so I'll love you and leave you...a stick-man on a door in the not too far distance is beckoning me fairly urgently...
Be well my friends, love again.
