The following day was an early start to set-off by bus to the Cameron highlands. On the journey there we were greeted by some stunning views with the bus driving along cliff edges!
The lodge was ok too. Very basic, bit grubby in places but manageable. The rest of the day we had left was spent checking out treks for the following day. We decided to hit the mossy forest trek. We also met a young couple from down south who we got talking to on the coach. Both Sam and Rachel were Trip advisor experts so we hit the number 1 place to eat in the Cameron Highlands, Jugen. Both Sam and myself got the best dishes despite what Rachel and Matt claimed were the best! I got the pork loin with vegetable curry and Sam got a rock rice pot. Both were no-more than 4 pound! The CH has several towns within it and we stayed in the heart of tana rata (I think thats right, I kept calling it something else!). The town had a strip of restaurants and shops.
We tried as much different food as possible but I had my favourite meal to date...Murtabak. It is like a pancake but thicker, filled with chicken, potato, chilli and comes with curry sauces such as Dahl and fish curry. Awesome!! In fact we actually had that for breakfast the following day!!
On the trek then...we were a little sceptical about doing one after the samui trip but this turned out to be a great trip!! The leader had banter and our group consisted of 3 couples including us. 1 french, 1 vietnamese and us! We visieted the tea plantation spots first to see the vast plantations. It turns out it is actually British tea! All owned by the Scottish, HA! Great views though.
After this we visited a sight seeing spot on the 2nd highest point in Malaysia. A full 6,666ft above sea level. Great for photos. After this we hit the mossy forest. Now it is called this due to the amount of moss that covers the trees. The forest itself is over 200,000 years old but would not look it die to the altitude and climate. Instead the moss has formed platforms over roots and the tress are thin but move sideways for growth. This was great fun and we ended up getting a longer trek as we all wanted it!
After the trek we were in need for a proper (BOH!) cuppa from the BOH! plantation. It was OK but not as good as YORKSHIRE TEA!! So after our breakfast of lemon cake and tea(!!!) we headed for the butterfly farm. A lot like ours in Leeds but less humid and smaller. Also there were dead butterflies in-places...nice. We did see some of the other insects found in the area at which point we both freaked a little. Look up 3 horned beetles but the flying ones. I got a picture which I will try get up. Luckily these were dead when we saw them!!
That night we had curry but ried local dishes again to our satisfaction! Not like home in the sense of what you get but every bit as satisfying. We both thought we had lost weight in Thailand however I reckon all will change now!
The day we were to move on then and we still had time for one more walk. We descided on the Robinson Waterfall. Don't go..Ever! Pointless as the water is polluted and the walk is rubbish.
But overall, big hand to the Cameron Highlands!!
