Awaiting news from Guernsey, we delayed our trip to Highams Beach on Jarvis Bay in case we needed to fly home.

We spent a lovely - if worrying day - mooching down by the beach, strolling in the hot still sunshine, chatting and watching to world go by, and a lady who sat crosslegged on the grass in the sunshine - apparantly meditating - for over an hour. The cicadas buzzed away in the trees, an odd stink bug landed on Shirley making her jump, and lizards scuttled in the nearby hedges.

Cronulla beach is a beautiful beach right next to a couple of parks, a town and beachside houses and apartments. An undulating walkway runs along the front and is popular with skateboarders, scooters, walkers, runners and people out for a stroll.

A lovely but surreal day spent feeling quite dis-located, half a whole world away from a poorly Dad and Mum at home alone.

Later we were much relieved we heard that Dad had a comfortable night and seems to be doing well. Highams Beach tomorrow.
