D&D Brewery. The first and only Micro Brewery in Honduras set up by an American about 12 years ago called Dale (the D&D stands for Dale & Dog) and is next to Lake Yojoa in the middle of the country.
Onsite they brew 6 different Ales, have a nice outdoor swimming pool, great outdoor bar and restuarant. Upon arriving we took a sample of all the Ales on offer, then drank many a mugs as the night progressed.
The next day we were asked if we would like to go ´Tubing'. An activity that the Brewery have just started, we would be only the 5th and 6th people to try this out.
Some of you may be wondering what tubing is, well it involves a rubber ring and a untamed river. Basically you sit on the rubber ring and cascade down the river. In our case constantly crashing into the many branches and foliage that stick out from the banks. At times the torrent is fast, at other times rather leisurely. We floated past a number of traditional houses with local residents looking on in confusion as two white people come floating past on rubber rings, cheerfully waving as they go past.
After a very heavy night of more Ale which decended into drunken games and late night pool jumping. Early next morning We headed off on a 4 hour Bird spotting tour on the lake, with a local Bird expert called Malcolm.
Malcolm is a very interesting and unique guy who is obsessed with birds, and got Dave and Emily very much into the beautiful variety on this lake. There are some 300 plus different species around the lake and it was a great experience to be taken by an expert. (the photo is from our boat in the middle of the lake)
For the bird enthusiasts out there, we saw three different kinds of Kingfisher (Amazon, Belted and Ringed) Tropical Moorhen, White Heron and a Blue/Green Heron, Jacana, Osprey, Turkey Vultures and many many many more. Emily was particually good at spotting them, putting this down to her knowledgable Grandparents.
So after that we got back, jumped in the pool and then drank more Ale....Why not eh?
