So here we are in El Paraiso, a town that is near the border of Nicaragua. A dusty but rather nice quiet town in which we will spend the night before heading off to country number 5.
So, our observations of the country that is Honduras?
1) BELLLLLIES ! Honduran men love to get their bellies out. Particularly to give them a scratch or a rub. They have even developed a special folding technique to get their T-shirts to rest on top of the belly.....we counted 12 in 10 days, then we stopped counting as it was all getting too much.
2) Travel is more complicated that what we have experienced so far. Journeys generally involve four different buses and at least one taxi, a journey of six to eight hours is typical around here, even if the destination is only 35 miles on the map.
3) In comparison to the other countries we have been through, Hondurans are a somewhat mixed bunch. Mainly friendly and happy but some appear to be abit grumpy for some reason. In Guatemala you say morning to every single person you meet, in Honduras sometimes you get a blank look.......reminds us of being in England !
4) Postboxes? Postcards? We did not see any anywhere (so sorry for lack of Honduran postcards sent out)
5) Dave can ride a horse!
6) Emily can outdrink Dave on the D&D Ales
7) No meal is complete in Honduras without at least four types of carbohydrate
8) Dave´s award for best sweet of the country, not much choice here but chewy Penguin sweets were the best.....yum yum
9) The locals love to put their hands, bellies, everything as close to your face as possible during a bus journey.
10) The local beer is Port Royal (not bad) and Salva Vida (better) although the second half of our trip consisted of Ales....not very Honduran.
11) Seatbelts dont seem to exist in Honduras.
So there we are. four down, six to go. Still having a brilliant time.........
