So because of my “heat exaustion” we made a complaint to the bus company, and they agreed that we ould upgrade our two day Kakadu trip to a 3 day. Good to see some companies are willing to help out. Our driver was called Luke (again) and he was awesome, a real nature enthuisast. So Kakadu is a National Park in the North which is renownd for being one of the best in Australia (if not the world). We were all really looking forward to it, me especially since I had heard nothing but great things. First stop was the Magnetic Termite Fields, these are incredible, huge monuments that look like gravestones spread throughout the fields. Some as high as 10 feet tall.I learnt so much about these little creatures, but I don’t want to bore you with the details. From here we stopped a couple of times for a BBQ and then little aboriginal stores. Followed by a swim in a waterfall area. But the main stop was a crise on a billabong in what is known as Litchfield Park. And what you ask would be the attraction of a billabong... yep you guessed it! CROCODILES. And they were not so illusive, we say both freshwater and salt water crocodiles, in their actual habitat. Believe me seeing them like this is completely different to a zoo, or croc farm, they move, for one. It was fascinating, and we also got to see a lot of the wildlife around the area, such a white eagles and hawks.Another bonus of these trips is all food is included, and prepared by the driver. Day two we entered Kakadu and saw some of the set of Crocodile Dundee, where his boat was attacked and other memorable moments. It was really becoming like an African safari, and I was loving every moment of it. Day two also took us to 4 natural swimming holes, and some of these were so beautiful, completely tranquil, until we jumped in obviously! One set I will always remember were natural pools in the high cliffs, with fresh water crocodiles, and we swam them. They had underwater caves which we swam under, it was really one of the highlights of my whole world trip so far. That good. We saw wild water buffalos, frilly necked lizards, and one night Luke took us on a midnight walk through the jungle...scarey s***! We had encounters with poinoness toads, wolf spiders, Goldern Orb Spiders, Snakes, need I go on!!!! Stupid idea to go with him. What was I thinking????And towards the end of day two we were told that something very special had just happened, Jin Jin falls was flowing at a magnificent rate. Normally the waterfall is very small, but when we got there it was huge. The water had taken up most of the path, flowing at a exceptionally fast rate, and flooding everything in site. This was a once in a year thing and it would be closed the day after, we were really lucky. It was a site, lets put it that way, beautiful. The funniest moment here, was the fact I was wearing my board shorts with no underwear (as you do!). when rock jumping they split!!!! And not just a small spit they ripped from the top accross the crotch and down. Not to say too much but everything fell out... luckily I held it together and hiked back to the bus very quickly. Funniest moment for a long while!. Our last day was a quiet one, we went to an Aboriginal rock site with cave paintings from thousands of years ago, and views of the park that were breathtaking. I personally am not a big fan of the Aboriginal art, Mary however loves it and bought 3 pieces all over $70 each! Shocking. We also got to see what the waterfall had done to the roads, some were completely swept away, and you do not want to venture into them for the salt water Crocs will have you under in a split second.Kakadu is such an amazing place, brought back memories of the Kruger in South Africa (without the Lions and elephants), there is so much to see and do. Its simply gorgeous. Definately something anyone should take the time to do if in Australia.
