Cambodia...done! leaving tomorrow morning for a lovely, bum-numming 12 hour bus journey across the border to Bangkok, where we'll spend 3 days before flying to Hong Kong, and then (Visa permitting, China).
We started our journey in Cambodia with a fairly painless border crossing by bus from Saigon to the capital, Phnom Penh. Unfortunately this town is most famous for featuring the S21 genocide prison (now a museum) and the killing fields used by the Khmer Rouge in the late 70s. 1000s of bodies have been exhumed (hense the tower of human skulls in the pictures) and they have still only covered around 1/3 of the mass graves!!! It was a pretty grim day visiting these sites but interesting!
From the capital we went down to Sihanoukville; Cambodia's only beaches- and nice ones too! so with a couple of days spare we chilled on the beaches for a week- the last beaches we'll see of this trip now :(
Then back up to the capital for one night before leaving for Siem Reap the next morning. And this is when it happened- possibly our worst day so far!! Howson had his phone, camera, and more importantly, his video camera stolen!! which means we have lost over 2 hours of videos from the trip so far!! we are so gutted as had some amazing footage of places, activities we've done, and people we've met!!!
Siem Reap is famous for one thing- the Angkor Temples, supposidly among the best temples in the world! to be honest though we were pretty disappointed- they were all pretty much near collapse and just looked like piles of rubble. There was one cool one though which would look more at home in an Indiana Jones movie!! Pics to follow soon- just need to muster up the courage and patience for the 10 hours it takes to upload them!!
And now we're up to date! only 2 and a bit weeks left now so we'll be seeing you all soon- even earlier if the Chinese continue being (sensored.......) and don't give us a Visa!!! You'd think they'd actually want spectators at the Games!!
Until next time...
