ok so Laos done...and pretty much Vietnam too.
Went to Luang Prabang in Laos first- great little town with busy night market- tried some of the 'street meat' which tasted amazing! amazing waterfalls here in the town too- as you will have seen from the pictures! you can climb right to the top and hang over the edge (obviously the concept of health and safety hasn't reached this part of the world yet).
After here we went down to Vang Vieng- a place where everybody goes for one reason...tubing!!! you pretty much float down the river on a rubber tube and stop at any (or in most cases all) of the 15-20 odd bars on route!!! amazing fun! and the funniest thing is that each bar has kids of like 6-8 years old that swim out into the fast flowing river to drag you into their bar!!! those of you on facebook would have heard about me going deaf- well this is where it all happened. A failed attempt at a cannonball jump from a 20ft rope swing ended up with me performing an 'ear bomb' into the river- leaving me deaf for about 2 weeks, but hey!...it's all part of the fun! (i was actually sober when i did this by the way!!)
After Vang Vieng went down to the capital Vientienne, but not stop as it's not that special and we're tight on time, so we endured a 15 hour bus journey acorss the border, on a bus with no AC, and packed so tightly that some tourists had not seat and had to sit in the aisles!! of course Nos and I had a seat!!!
This brings me to Vietnam- great country but the locals...STRESS ME OUT!!! the other night at dinner i counted 25 different people trying to sell us anything from sunglasses to nodding horses and dogs!!! Started in Hue and went on a rather long river cruise of temples...yes more temples!!!! after here went down to Hoi An- where i finally found a hosptal with english speaking doctors and got my ear seen to (sort of!). Amazing beaches here- though loads of jellyfish!
Then to Nah Trang- another great place- prob my favourite of the country, and again, great beaches! the to Dalat- boring place and smells! and now that bring s us to Saigon (or Ho Chi Min City as they call it here). Really busy 24/7 with more motorbikes than you could ever imagine. Went on a cool tour of the tunnels used by the Viet Cong against America. You could also fire all sorts of guns including AK47's here but unfortunately money is very tight now so couldnt treat myself!
So, that's it for Vietnam now- leave for Cambodia tomorrow. Only 4 and a bit weeks of travelling left now!! its all gone so quick. Sorry for the long blog this time!
Hope everyone's ok
