Thailand
There must be some unwritten rule that a land bordeer crossing isn't allowed to go smoothly. After managing to avoid a visa scam at the Cambodia side got into a mini van on the Thai side with the craziest driver ever. Actually said prayer that we arrived safely, mad man thought he was on a race track in the pouring rain and a good few times we were thrown forward when he had to slam on the brakes. Still in recovery from Cambodia we chilled out for a couple more days and met back up with our pal Dan and once again got a newby addicted to monopoly cards.
Koh Tao
And so the fun begins, booked up for our advance diving course, even the scenery on the boat over was awesome. We went back to Bhudda View where we got qualified 5yrs ago. Before we done our first dive of the course we were given homework and it felt like being back at school, studying and then a test. The diving was unbelievable, across our 5 dives we saw an abundance of the coolest and funniest marine life, one being a blue spotted yellow ray, looked like something from a cartoon. Darren and I had been wanting to see a turtle for years and on our night dive we finally saw it. Even though it was sleeping we managed to catch it twice when it had to swim up and go for air so it was excellent. Darren was slagging me afterwards saying that he could just hear me screaming under the water when we first spotted it cause i was so excited. There aren't many pics obv but it was one of the best couple of days of our trip plus we've now got our advanced diver certificates.
Koh Samui
Only a few days on Koh Samui and spent them chilling out on the beach. The only catch is that we brass necked it and went through a 5* hotel and borrowed their facilities WOO HOO! Found ourselves a wee local with the best Thai food about and just had a wee wander around the markets and shops on the island. Wish we had stayed a little longer cause it is a cool island.
Koh Phanang
Off the cockroach ridden boat and one of the first things we hear is, "Awrite mate?" in an undoubtebly Scottish accent. A guy Jamie who lives there and working in a bar shouts us over cause i've got the Scotland flag over my rucksack. Turns out he's from Dumbarton too, from Bog head - the world is a small place sometimes. Koh Phanang is the island where the full moon party takes place and cause it wasnt that time the place was almost deserted. On the night we arrived however, was the 'Black Moon Party' and since we were fully recovered since Cambodia we were well up for it. We had a generous helping of Sang Som before we left to walk to the beach. Turned out it was too far to walk cause was at a different beach so got in a tuk tuk which took us miles away, so we def couldnt have walked. Turned out not only was it on an other beach but was 1000baht for us to get in. We thought it was free and only had out 1300baht, so after entry and the tuk tuk it meant no booze and no money to get home, so a quick u-turn and we had to go back ;-( Needless to say when we told the story the next day in the pub there were a few laughs, OOOOPS!! Got myself a wee tribal turtle tattoo and other than that just chilling out by the pool.
Bangkok
Yes back again, the place is hard to avoid when you move around Thailand. Had a great night out, obviously this began with a bottle of Sang Som. Went to watch a really good band and ended up in the company of 5 chinese folk. They didn't speak much enlgish and vice versa but somehow we got along great and only parted company because the street DJ's and buckets were calling us out for a dance. This time we met a guy from ecuador, so when I'm slightly under the influence I think I can speak fluent Spanish. I actually done not bad except kept saying Darren was my brother instead of husband hah!
Darren got himself a tailor made, 3 pice, burgendy suit and looks handsome as hell in it although he's not totally sold on the colour yet. We went to the Supremacy League Muay Thai boxing on our last and it was brilliant. We managed to get to the front at ringside and sometimes the sound when the fighters connected was brutal and then the whole crowd would almost gasp at the same time then errupt into applause. All the locals were going mad for it, shouting and gesturing for the fighters to do different moves. Wasn't sure beforehand if I would like because its so violent, but the fighters were so skilled and it was easy to appreciate their skill and dedication. We absolutley loved it, Darren threatned to take me into the ring but I declined cause I didnt want to whoop his ass infront of everyone ;-) Got dreads again on the last day.
love you long time xxx
