Having not been able to find many reasonably priced flights across Europe in June we decided we would take a weekend break in Luxembourg. We flew into Luxembourg City on Friday night and on the Saturday morning set out to the tourist office. There we found a self-guided walking tour brochure so Ellen took us around Luxembourg City visiting the main squares, along the prettiest areas of the old town and into the Bock Casemates - a series of rock galleries and passageways. We walked around these passageways for a while and got a little bit lost before we finally found our way out. Having worked out an appetite we decided to try some traditional Luxembourg soup for lunch which was very tasty. We then tried a hot chocolate at a well-known chocolate shop with a huge number of hot chocolates which we found a bit disappointing. We then decided to jump on a bus slightly out of town to visit the US military cemetery where thousands of Americans who were killed during the war were buried. The cemetery was massive but really nicely set out and a very fitting tribute/memorial. We bussed back into town and went bar hopping a bit visiting some nice (and not so nice pubs). The nicest bar was in an area called the Grund which was nice, quiet and relaxing with a spot right by the river. Having seen most of what Luxembourg City had to offer, the next day we travelled out of the city to head off on a wine cycling tour. We started our tour at the wine producer's house/processing area where the grapes were turned into the actual wine. We then had a gentle 30-60 minute ride along a bike path and looking across some of the vines in the area. We then stopped in the middle of a vineyard where we had a table set up in the sun. We then tried several of the different wines and generally relaxed and soaked up the sun. We biked a bit further downhill to an old Roman tomb where we had a nice view out across a town and tried some of the wine producer's award winning sparkling wine. A little further biking along the river to a town called Remich where our tour finished. We grabbed some lunch here before heading back into the city and grabbing our bags to head back to London.
