Our last stop on our travels was Western Australia to visit Paula and Jonny and spend a decent amount of time with them. We flew into Perth on the Friday afternoon and that evening headed to Rottnest Island for the weekend. We had the perfect beachside bach for the weekend so spent a bit of time here drinking, eating and just enjoying being back in the southern hemisphere. Rottnest is a car free island so we took some bikes over with us and biked around the island with the occasional snorkelling stop. There was also some time for a bit of tennis, mini-golf and bombs off the pier. We headed back to Perth on the Sunday night after an amazing weekend.
We then had 5 days in Perth. Along with a bit of exercise which was needed we managed to visit Kings Park, do some Kangaroo spotting on Heirisson Island, visit a couple of friends, Visit Swan Bells, have a picnic and take part in a family Tapas competition. Further out of Perth we feed Kangaroos, patted Koalas and saw Tasmanian Devils, Kookaburras and more at Caversham Wildlife Park. We also went down to Freemantle where we took a tour of the really fascinating Freemantle Prison and tried some really nice beers at Little Creatures Brewery.
The next weekend we headed to Margaret River for the Gourmet Escape Food and Wine Festival. We spent the Saturday trying a huge number of Margaret River wines, Western Australia craft beers and some great food. We spent Sunday mountain biking through some of the trails at Margaret River. After another great weekend it was unfortunately time to leave.
The next day we had an early flight to Auckland via Melbourne so it was time to say thanks and goodbye to Paula and Jonny. It was also time to say goodbye to three months of travel and say hello to New Zealand again as we started another chapter in our life.
