Day 18 Wednesday 26th
Off to explore Devils Marbles!
Another amazing geological feature of the centre of Oz! Extraordinary!
.
We wandered round trying not to get separated as according to Aboriginal Legend the people of the dreaming live in caves under the rocks and sometimes they come out to play but they might not let you go! One of the aboriginal elders cousin went missing and they can't remember the song to get him back!
.
Back on the road....putting in a big drive today!
Nope the novelty of the road trains hadn't worn off. Today excitement was a floatilla of army tanks! JD even stood road side in Tennant Creek for a while trying to capture the illusive road train shot on his phone!
Our biggest drive yet. 515kms but relatively painless.
Arrived at Daly Waters pub well after gin o'clock, the place was absolutely packed,
Daly waters featuring in 'At Town like Alice' is the quintessential Australian pub! Even down to the rack of hanging bras left as a momento of travelers past. I only brought two with me so there was no way in hell I was leaving one hanging from the roof of daly waters bar! The place was full to the bream of people and stuff! From driver licenses, passports, photos, bras, knickers, thongs, football gurneys, playing cards, stickers, hats, number plates, money, singlets, badges....you name it you can leave a little piece of yourself.
The girls got up, with the majority of the others at the bar, when the country singer asked for anyone wearing thongs to go forward. They made up the thong orchestra and accompanied him in a bush ballad! Very amusing!
We had a chicken parmigiana for tea and snuck off to the now full, over flow carpark, leaving the increasingly rowdy crowd and their country singer entertainer to it!
