Day 15 Sunday 23rd
JD did some running repairs on his bike tyre!
.
Kids and I went to pool.
.
We rode our bikes into town. Which was the hairiest experience yet! Matilda hasn't done much riding to date and the bridge over the Todd River, which is also the Stuart Highway, has a NARROW Footpath!!!! I was back leader and neatly had a heart attack watching Matilda wobble precariously as the trucks and campers roared past. Eventually after Olivia "accidentally" caught her handle bar of her bike in the railing and came off! I called it enough already, we pushed the bikes the rest of the way over the bridge (and the whole bridge on the way home)
.
Alice Springs is Australia's most famous outback town, steeped in history. Was interesting to say the least! A lot of locals just sitting, relaxing in groups on the foot path.
.
Olivia "accidentally" didn't see a group of 3 aboriginal men sitting on the side of the bike path! Fortunately I could see what was about to happen and they all had a lucky escape!
.
We went to the Reptile centre, with over 100 reptiles, including Terry, 3.3 meters of Salt water crocodile! Kids keen to have a massive Python round their neck, or body in Matilda's case, JD and I not so much!
.
Handing over to Olivia now.....
We saw:
. Snakes : pythons, Taipan, Easton Brown snake, whip snake,
Frogs : green tree frogs,
Lizards : Blue tongues, frill necks, skinks, Thorny Devils, Goanna, shingle back sleepy lizard,
Turtles : pig-nosed turtle,
Crocodiles : salt water crocs,
Gecko : Pygmy gecko, fat tailed gecko,
.
The inland taipan is the most venomous snake in the universe it is also known as
fierce snake. We all had a snake wrapped round our neck that one was called a olive python, it's name was Lexie. We also held a blue tongue called Nora and a frill neck called Ricky. There was also a crocodile called Terry. The Olive Python was scaly and smooth every time it slithered down my body I felt the shivers go down my spine.
.
We got back to the van and went to catch up with Sarah's, Gibbo and Mark. We meet up to be entertained by a local singer and photographer, Barry Skipsey, in the Kangoanemu shed! He had us all on our feet singing and doing the actions to "Give me a home amongst the gum trees!"
.
Drinks with Gibsons and Hirsts at our van, the kids had all made friends too and were busy between the jumping pillow, play cards, drawing and buying sweet treats from the pancake van. Said our farewells as we were all heading in opposite directions in the morning.
JD still banished to the tent.
