Days 36-40 in the world of Sam and Dani: Koh Samui is by far the best place we've been to yet, what we expected Thai islands to be like!
On the bus to the port we met an Australian girl called Bec who didnt have any plans either so we decided we'd all head together. On the boat over we also bumped into a friend we left in Phi Phi so decided to head to Chaweng with him and his group. The hotel we went to was full so we ended up getting one round the corner which although it didnt have a pool was ok, and... whilst everyone else paid 500baht a night, we got 4 nights for 530baht, bargain! Because of this we were able to treat ourselves to some nice meals, our favourite was at a restaurant on the beach called 7 Seas, it was lovely!
The beach at Samui was just what we were expecting at all the others, pure white sand, bright blue sea, good atmosphere and SUN! The first 2 days were sooo hot and we had to get in the sea every 20mins or so to cool down =) Unfortunately, the last 2 days were abit miserable so we spent the day lazing in bed watching films.. it also worked out really well because on those days we were once again abit delicate
Its a good job we had 2 days relaxing in Krabi because otherwise we would have wasted the nights, which were brilliant! The main bars were in a street with a club called Green Mango at the end so thats where all the travellers went. On the second night, the thai elections meant that the bars stopped serving alcohol after a certain time, but wheres theres a will theres a way! We met a group of people watching the football then afterwards went and got drinks from the minimart and hit the beach.. By the end of the night we were all skinny dipping watching the lightening above us, very fun! On the way home we were approached by some ladyboys (suprise suprise) and one was hitting on an irish lad. For a joke and cos we were all curious, he went with 'it' to see whether they were female or a ladyboy. They went down a lane into a room, so we all secretly followed, waited a few minutes, then ran in and took photos. The lad ran out screaming it was a man and they came out posing in the doorway for us sayng 'I know who I am', madness! He/she came up the road with us on their scooter before getting off and posing for photos. Sam then decided she wanted a lil go and 'borrowed' her scooter for a lil lap down the street, fun fun!
On our third night we decided that we would take it easy as we had planned to get a jeep and explore the island, so went to a ladies night where we got free drinks till 10pm. Unfortunately, plans never work out correctly especially with us.. We ended up going across to another street of bars that used to be the main section (the last few years bars near the beach had become more popular) spending time dancing with thai bar girls. After that we were supposed to go home but ended up going back to the other bar street and partied some more.. So obviously getting up the next morning bright and early to hire and jeep didnt happen (lucikly it rained that day so we managed to justify it to ourselves)
The last night we just went down the bar street having a few drinks, meeting people. Its amazing how many people you meet in one place, who you see in another! Next stop Koh Phangnan for some relaxation before the Full Moon Party, woo!
