Day 105-107 in the world of Sam and Dani: We left Vietnam after a sad farewell to the lovely Rob and Pete and headed for Kuala Lumpur, via Bangkok. When we arrived we jumped on a bus and headed to Chinatown. We'd been told somewhere to stay but as we stepped off the bus it began to lash it down so we just looked for what we could find. This was the first time in ages that we felt like proper travelers, walking around in the rain with our rucksacks on our backs and our day bags on our fronts, we looked cool!
As we were walking through the market a man asked us if we were looking for accommodation and gave us a leaflet which sounded good, so we followed. When we got to the hostel we were abit shocked, having spent the last 3 weeks in nice places and the last 2 in really nice places (thanks boys) we were well out of our comfort zone. The place smelt, had dirty carpets and the room looked like the one from the film the Beach! But not to lose our refound traveller feeling we decided to stay. After checking in we went for a mooch around the market and to get our bearings. After speaking to the owner of the hostel, we decided that we'd get up early in the morning to get to the Petronas Towers so that we could get some of the limited free tickets they give out.
After an awful nights sleep (the dreaded room had no aircon), we got up when the alarm went off at 7am, with the aim of leaving the hostel at 7.30am as planned. But when we glanced at Sam's watched, we realised we'd messed up. We'd forgot about the time difference, so instead of being 7.30 it was 8.30, great! We basically ran to the train station hoping to get some tickets, but when we got there found a massive queue of people. Instantly we thought we were too late but after the 45 minute wait we got told that we had some tickets and were allocated a time to come back. In between we thought we'd check out the shopping we'd heard so much about =)
After seeing the lovely view from the bridge we headed back over to Chinatown where we had a look in Central Market and around the actual market. After a mad panic about booking flights (we just managed to book them in time) we headed over to the famous Time Square Shopping Mall. Now, not only does this gigantic building contain lots of shops, it holds a THEME PARK!! You should have seen how excited we were =) After we finished playing it was dark so we headed over to the KL Tower, where we went up to the observation desk. The view was amazing! Like the one in Bangkok, you could see right across the city.. beautiful!
We went for tea at Nando's (probably the first time since being in Asia we know that it is real chicken and not pigeon) then went to see the Michael Jackson movie. Earlier on in the day we saw it advertised at the cinema in the one of the malls and because its only on for 2 weeks thought we should take the opportunity to see it. It ended up being a great move, that man is a legend! We wont say anymore but you must see that film to appreciate how talented and dedicated he was.
Back at the hostel we went to bed in our new aircon room (yes we asked to swap) ready for our flight to Bali.. Yes, Bali here we come!
