We left Santiago a little bit (well very) annoyed as Sam´s ipod had been stolen, bad times! There wasn't a lot we could do about it though, just another warning to be careful.
We arrived in Bogota where we were met by Mario, another of our Colombian friends we met in Thailand. We picked his friend up then went for a drink overlooking the city, which is massive! From where we were we couldn't even see half the city, 8 million people as you can imagine is a sight. Later we headed out to Mario´s house where we were staying for the night, about 30 minutes from the city. His house was amazing, something from cribs, a lot different from what we´ve been used to over the last 8 and half months. When we arrived his housekeeper had lunch on the table which was a nice surprise, and then we had a little rest before going out for tea and drinks that night.
The following day Mario arranged for Alex his driver to give us a tour of the city, as he knew all the best places. We visted the El Museo Del Oro (the museum explaining the countries gold history), the Monserrate (which is a church on top of the mountain overlooking the city, you have to get the cable car up which has an awesome view) and a few other sights including the Presidential Palace and Courthouse. The Courthouse has giant ants on the outside that are meant to symbolize the presidents philosophy that everyone should be hard at work like ants, very random!
After the busy day sightseeing we checked into the Musicology hostel which was located in the La Candelaria area so that we were in the middle of everything. The hostel was unique, rooms were around courtyards and the bar was quite old school. The staff made it though, very friendly and helped anyway they could. On our last night we had a proper Colombian night out, where we started in the hostel bar drinking all sorts of shots, even Dani got involved with the shot drinking! Afterwards we headed to a bar with underground music (not quite a club) with the staff and other travelers where we stayed till silly o´clock, before having piggy back races through the street back to the hostel. We had to leave at half 7 for our flight to Cartagena (flights are strangely cheaper than buses, not to meantion 14 hours quicker) so you would have thought we´d have gone straight to bed, but no.. We stayed up till 5 am before deciding flying with a hangover may not be the best idea.
