We thought our 11 hour flight would be enjoyable….we thought wrong! Not only did we have to buzz every time we wanted something, only to be greeted by a cabin crew member who is clearly in the wrong profession, but a small child screamed for about 10 hours out of 11! We did at one point feel for the Mum who was completely mortified, but the Dad looked away and didn't once try to help, instead joked to those around that the earplugs supplied by the airline might help!
After settling into our hostel for the night we were met by our friend Paola the following day. We met Paola in Thailand and as she now lives in Chile, she offered to show us around. We did the Santiago bus tour, stopping off at the cable car that takes you for a view of the city, before heading back to her apartment where we headed out for lunch. Our first Chilean meal was very good! We had a plate of melted goats cheese with bread (Dani was in her element) followed by a famous Chilean dish. It was like roast beef! We also tried our fist pisco sour which is so strong and defiantly Sam´s favourite! She used the phrase ´´pisco sour por favour´´ a lot that night!
In the evening we went out to a bar/club. People kept trying to talk to us in Spanish, Dani tried to talk to them but Sam just kept saying pisco sour por favour. Think she needs to learn some new phrases! The music was a mixture of Reggaton, Salsa and some Western music. They even played Micheal Jackson in Spanish, very strange! The night ended with a quick getaway from some boys who were trying to talk to us. Sam told them we were going to the toilet but we quickly ran outside and into the first taxi we saw!
After a nice lie in, Paola collected us and we set of for the afternoon at the coast. We visited Viña del Mar which is where all the wineries are and Valparaiso. We said goodbye to Paola that night as we were on an early morning flight to Colombia the next day but it isn't for long… she is going to travel Argentina and Brazil with us…fun times ahead!!
