The flight to Cartagena was only an hour and as soon as we stepped off the plane we could feel the heat hit us, a nice contrast from the cold of Bogota. We stayed at a place called Casamara, which Mario picked out for us. It was in a good location, a few minutes walk from the old town, but just a little bit quiet. We went to Boca Grande beach the first day, and Playa de America the next where we decided to recreate our tans, before going into the Old Town at night for sightseeing and dinner. We visited Café del Mar, similar to that in Ibiza but not as good =)
The next day we went on a trip to Playa Blanca which is an island just off the coast. It was paradise.. but with every other person there! Because it was Easter Weekend lots of people had the same idea as us and headed for the coast. We did manage to get away from it by walking further down the beach, where there were a few less people.
We had heard the ferry was the best way to get there but the lady at our hotel said the bus was a lot quicker and cheaper as it included lunch, we stupidly believed her. It took a lot longer getting there, and although we got to experience their ´ferry´ that took you from one island to the other (a barge being pushed by a motorised canoe) it was one bumpy ride across the island that we could have done without.
After watching countless people go on banana boats we gave in and decided to have ago. Being thrown into the Carribbean Sea was suprisngly a lot of fun and something we never thought we´d do.
Whilst on the beach sunbathing you were constantly being asked by the locals if you wanted icecream, drinks, bracelets etc. They would start asking you where you were from and other questions before telling you to buy their products. There was a young lad called George that we befriended and after a lot of persuasion we said we´d buy a bracelet each but we wanted it to be Colombian colours. He tried to blag us that the colours included green and purple, but eventually he sat and made us one.
Back on the mainland we went out for tea before packing ready for the bus to Santa Marta the following morning, hello more beaches =)
