Time to finally leave Egypt. Met our transfer driver at 10.30am who then took us out to the airport. For whatever reason he treated the drive as a Sunday morning cruise, a bit of a change from the brash overtaking, driving on the wrong side, speeding and near misses that we had become accustomed to. Got to the airport and pretty standard stuff until one of the security staff attempted to get Dean to bribe him in order to take some glass containers onto the flig...

To be honest this day was a bit of a waste. All of the others had returned home, and we the three of us were in a city where we had seen the major sights, yet weren't confident enough to jump in very random and sporadic white vans ('public transport') to go into the city centre. So instead the day consisted of movies, movies and a few sudoku puzzles. We did however manage to leave the hotel in order to get dinner, which turned out to be a very nice Tex-Mex restau...

Arrived in Cairo quite early in the morning, around 8am eventually I think it was. Woke up to find us stuck in the clogged and chaotic traffic that seemed to be so typical of Cairo. Arrived at the hotel and checked in, wasn't one of the nicer ones we had been to. I had three different sized/shaped beds in my room, another room didn't have running water, and another room had rocks/stones in the bathroom.... Had a chance for a shower and some breakfast before mak...

Woke up very cold and went down for breakfast. Met the rest of the group and then boarded the bus to head out for the day. First stop was Sakkara which is the oldest stepped Pyramid in Egypt, built in 2700BC. Had a brief look around before back on the bus. Stopped off at a local Perfume place where they sold imitations of all the major brands, plus quite nice glass bottles. Had some provided lunch there, and listened to an old Egyptian man tell us about the perf...

Left home in Acton at around 5am to catch the tube out to Heathrow with Dean and Caitlin. Had quite an uneventful flight down to Cairo via Istanbul, flew over some very sparse snow covered areas in what I assume was Bulgaria. Arrived to Cairo, got the tourist visa then made our way through customs. After a little mix up we met the Expat rep and were transfered to the airport. Met our guide Waec and then eventually dropped my stuff off in the same room as Petrina...
